Hailing from a family of gemstone dealers and a manufacturer, Sweta Jain’s fondness towards gemstones is obvious. Later, this liking for gemstones became Sweta’s profession as she launched her company – Goshwara - in 2007, supplying only one-of-a-kind pieces to private clientele. Two years later, Sweta in her bid to fill a void in the market for luxuriously fun pieces, decided to turn Goshwara into a collection based brand. Today, Goshwara is known for its individuality. Though it thrives on tradition and timeless values, the refreshing spirit is still incorporated in her jewellery.

It’s all in the family

Designer and President Sweta Jain has been working with gemstones since childhood. Sweta and her brothers willingly accompanied their father to the mines of Africa. As a purveyor of stones to the finest jewellery houses globally, the Jains only saw it right to keep the entire family involved. As she grew up,innovative manner. “I studied in GIA as well as in Fashion Institute of Technology. I was born into the trade but had only worked with loose gemstones till I was 21. I enjoyed drawing and since I wanted to use the gemstones more creatively, designing seemed the right path,” says Sweta.

“Gemstones are in my blood; and even though I always thought I would become a pilot and travel and write, I somehow gravitated towards jewellery. I have received the award for best design in Platinum jewellery,” adds Sweta.

Jewellery Collection

Goshwara jewellery is quite trendy yet traditional at times. Colour stones are the mainstay of Sweta’s designs. Talking about her love for gemstones, Sweta says, “My affinity towards gemstones is because of my familiarity and comfort with them. I love colour and they make me happy.” And one can see the happiness reflected in all her collections be it her Freedom collection where she has used a variety of semi-precious stones in 18K gold or her Gossip and Naughty collections wherein Blue Topaz, Peridot, Rubelite, Amethyst and diamonds will weave a fashionable spell over you. How many times have you seen a citrine with deep orange hues that reminds you of a fiery sunset or a bright peridot that brings the sight of lush greenery? Sweta Jain’s jewellery has it all.

Even the followers of the brand know its commitment to colour; one such buyer had complimented her saying “You are your father’s daughter” which stayes etched in her mind.

One glance at all her collections namely Innate, Freedom, Gossip, Mischief, Rock-N-Roll, Naughty, G-One and Beyond and it’s obvious to the onlooker that the designs are utterly feminine yet bold. They are colourful and have a lot of playfulness. Though bold and colourful, her jewellery is not age-bound. Talking about her jewellery that goes beyond age barriers, Sweta says, “My jewellery is for the young and old; it’s for anybody who likes colour. It’s meant for the fun loving, happy souls.”

Designer and Her Muse

Sweta says that she loves to travel and her jewellery is many a time inspired by her travels and architecture. “Recently, I have worked on a whole lot of one-ofa- kinds. And almost each one of them was inspired by vintage and architecture. I have used more edgy shapes combined with an art deco feel,” adds Sweta.

Being a designer and being quite different from the rest, we were quite interested to know about her personal style in jewellery. When asked about it, Sweta replies, “I like to dress trendy but comfortable; I am always more understated. I love my large cocktail rings and earrings. Only one or two pieces can add so much character to a personality.” “I also adore the jewellery styles of Jennifer Anniston and Michelle Obama,” adds Sweta.

Goshwara, the Meaning

In the courts of Persian and Indian Kings, GOSHWARA was a term used to describe a perfect teardrop shape. Forming a silhouette of perfect proportions, this shape also embodied the essence of femininity, with its luxurious curves. It was known that only the finest of craftsman, could create a Goshwara. The royal court would only allow the most immaculate pieces to be present.

The brand used this idea of pristine craftsmanship today, to create Goshwara’s intricate collections. Their jewellery is designed and manufactured to exude sensuous curves with colourful confidence. Goshwara is guided by the principles of timelessness and tradition.

Parting Words

Sweta followed her heart and worked hard to fulfill her dreams. She says, “I saw my father work hard and pursue his dreams relentlessly. He always taught my brother and me that if one works hard, success will follow.” She feels all the aspiring jewellery designers need to follow this. “Work hard and believe. Follow your own passion. There is a client for everything,” advices Sweta.
